The Build South Africa Architecuture

The Build South Africa is an exciting new ITV series featuring some of the best commercial and private building initiatives in South Africa. Episodes aim to inform, inspire, and initiate innovation.

This online TV series will be aired across social media platforms on a ‘free to view’ basis.

“Architecture Edition” showcasing proudly South African architecture & design, and locally manufactured products: interior design elements, furniture, building essentials, green initiative, DIY, landscaping, and more.

The Build South Africa Online TV Series

The aim of this series is to (a) promote proudly South African production and design; (b) inspire renovation and DIY projects; (c) encourage audiences to shop local; (d) introduce SA design & products to international audiences.

The Build South Africa House Plants

MAIN CATEGORIES

Each episode will feature up to three buildings that fit the category type or content. 

Award-Winning Architecture

Any residential or commercial property that has won a local/international award for architecture or design. 

Filming: Only final projects or designs to be filmed. Interview with architect/builder and/or property owner.

Green Building

Any private or public building that has a certified GBSA rating (Green Star, Net Zero, EWP, EDGE.) Please specify when applying to be featured.

Filming: Interview with architect/builder/engineer/other and/or property owner who has knowledge of the “green factors” incorporated in the property. Final building.

Commercial Properties

Any commercial property including hospitality, business, and large residential rentals .

Filming: Interview with architect/builder/engineers/other and/or property or business owner. Can be shot with multi-day option: building progress + final building, or final project only.

Renovations

Any commercial or residential building renovation project may apply to be featured. Minor renovations might not be included depending on the final product impact. 

Filming: Interview with architect/builder/other and/or property or business owner. Multi-day shoot of renovation progress + final product.

Prefabricated

Any commercial or residential building that is prefabricated (manufactured in sections to enable quick or easy assembly on site).

Filming: Interview with architect/builder/designer/other and/or property or business owner. Multi-day shoot of build process and/or fabrication + final product or final product only.

Tiny Nation

Tiny homes or commercial buildings up to 50m2 each that is classified as “tiny homes” or “tiny offices” etc. forming part of the tiny spaces movement included mobile homes.

Filming: Interview with architect/builder/designer/other and/or property or business owner. Multi-day shoot of build process and/or fabrication + final product or final product only.

Residential

Any residential building larger than 50m2 each.

Filming: Interview with architect/builder/designer/other and/or property or business owner. Multi-day shoot of build process  + final product or final product only.

Heritage Buildings

Any historic building older than 60 years with background information available (year built, owners, used for, history, etc.)

Filming: building + history interview with owners/design firm/builders/other.

SUPPORT CATEGORIES

Supporting categories will be added to episodes to fit the building or content type with proudly South African design in mind.

Interior Design & Products

Focus on South African design, artisan products, design tips, art, interior decor, furniture manufacturing, and more. 

Filming: interview with the relevant person regarding the products/design. Can be filmed at the factory, studio, showroom, store etc. in one location; or multi-location options available for example “factory + showroom” to show the manufacturing of the actual product + final product in a beautiful setting. 

Energy

Renewable energy such as solar, electrical engineering, electrical services for construction industry, lighting, and more. Includes energy-saving tips.

Filming: interview with the relevant person regarding energy use/manufacturing processes etc. Single location shoot; or multi-location shoot for example “manufacturing + installation” etc.

Local Manufacturing

Locally manufactured products for the construction industry including construction material such as steel/concrete/glass/machinery/building supplies, etc. 

Filming: interview with the relevant person regarding manufacturing processes etc. Single location shoot; or multi-location shoot for example “manufacturing + installation” etc.

Engineering

Focus on proudly South African engineering projects relating to any activities in the construction industry including infrastructure. Civil, electrical and more.

Filming: interview with the relevant engineer/engineering firm regarding the project. Single location shoot; or multi-location shoot for example “office + on-site” etc.

Paint

Paint manufacturing, application, colour profiling, etc. Focus on “how-to” guide & tips.

Filming: single or multi-location options with interview/how-to guide. Application process/colour guide templates.

DIY

Product types for do-it-yourself projects and the correct way of applying them. Tips, tricks, and how-to. 

Filming: single or multi-location options with interview/how-to guide. Application process, product manufacturing, and more.

Landscaping & Horticulture

Indoor plants, indigenous plants, growing vegetables, how to select trees, “how-to” planting & DIY guide, nurseries, landscapers, pools/ponds, landscaping supplies, and more.

Filming: single or multi-location options with interview/how-to guide. Film at nurseries and farms, landscaping (before & after), cooking inserts, etc.

Construction Supplies

PPE, construction tools, and more. Focus on locally manufactured supplies and local PPE guides.

Filming: single or multi-location options such as “manufacturing process + in-use on-location”.

Building Plans

Professional building plans for private & public buildings with a focus on education (process, why, what, etc.)

Filming: single or multi-location options such as “drawing studio + location of final building”.

Brokers

Real estate brokers. Focus on educating buyers or sellers (the process, what to look out for, how it works, etc.)

Filming: single or multi-location options such as “office + property”.

Legal

Real estate legal guides. Private and commercial property markets, building legal requirements, green requirements, manufacturing requirements, and more.

Filming: single or multi-location options such as “office + property”.

EPISODES

This online TV series aims to entertain the viewer, and uses subtle marketing products/services placement.

Lifestyle marketing is noninvasive and allows the viewer to consume products and services at their own leisure without feeling bombarded by traditional “marketing videos”.
